Greetings to the 10th National Congress of the UJC Brazil

Dear Comrades,

we want to send you our greetings to your X National Congress:

Your congress is taking place in times of war, which threatens to engulf the entire globe. The Working-class youth are expected to fight this war for the capitalists – even though it runs counter to our interests.

Those in power are arming themselves for it – both in your countries and in ours. Around the world, we are witnessing the steady erosion of democratic rights. In our country, the government is specifically trying to introduce forced labor through new laws, to destroy the eight-hour working day, and to enforce similar measures. Hundreds of thousands of workers who are being laid off from the auto industry, the chemical industry, and other sectors are to be deployed to work for the war effort.

Because the capitalists can no longer make profits and keep their systems stable, they have to set the world on fire for a third time. And despite all the drones and modern warfare technologies, they still cannot do without people, without soldiers. So they not only have to convert their production to war machinery, but also train young people once again to shoot at their brothers and sisters in other countries.

In some countries, Compulsory military service has already been reintroduced. In Germany, a new Compulsory military service law is to be passed this year. It begins with large-scale data collection, paves the way for conscrips to be deployed abroad, and seeks to determine how much a human life is worth.

With conscription, those in power will try to get us all. But that is precisely their weakness: without us, their war cannot be waged.

That is why we are currently fighting to unite the anti-war forces in our country – whether pacifists or anti-militarists. Only together can we oppose conscription. The first steps toward forming committees against conscription have already been taken; they are intended to unite and coordinate this struggle. Because individually or separately, we will not stand a chance.

Under the slogan “We will not allow ourselves to be registered and recruited! No to compulsory military service!”, the initiative “Form committees against compulsory military service!”, initiated and supported by us, has organized demonstrations throughout Germany. We are sending you the collage.

Even though we know that the movement against conscription is currently still too small, too weak, and too fractionalized to be able to prevent the law, these demonstrations are nevertheless an important attempt to strengthen and unite our forces. After all, the fight against conscription and general war mobilization will not end once the law is passed.

As a socialist youth organization, we realize that the fight against the introduction of conscription is a prerequisite for the fight within the army. That is why we are waging it. And if one day they should conscript us en masse for their war – which will take time, as the structures for this are still lacking – we will work to undermine it.

For what ultimately really ends wars for the peoples are revolutions.

For all this, today more than ever, we need a powerful world federation of democratic youth – founded as a lesson from a catastrophe toward which we are once again heading. We know that World Festivals are urgently needed for this. However, they are only effective if the program is determined by the WFDY and not by any government – and if all member organizations can participate fully in shaping it. Let us fight for this together within the WFDY!

Queremos enviar-lhes nossas saudações ao seu X Congresso Nacional:

Seu congresso está ocorrendo em tempos de guerra, que ameaça engolfar o mundo inteiro. Espera-se que a juventude da classe trabalhadora lute nesta guerra pelos capitalistas – mesmo que isso contrarie nossos interesses.

Os que estão no poder estão se armando para isso – tanto em seus países quanto no nosso. Ao redor do mundo, testemunhamos a erosão constante dos direitos democráticos. Em nosso país, o governo está tentando especificamente introduzir o trabalho forçado por meio de novas leis, destruir a jornada de trabalho de oito horas e impor medidas semelhantes. Centenas de milhares de trabalhadores que estão sendo demitidos da indústria automobilística, da indústria química e de outros setores serão mobilizados para trabalhar no esforço de guerra.

Como os capitalistas não conseguem mais obter lucros e manter seus sistemas estáveis, eles precisam incendiar o mundo pela terceira vez. E apesar de todos os drones e tecnologias bélicas modernas, eles ainda não conseguem prescindir de pessoas, de soldados. Assim, eles não só precisam converter sua produção em máquinas de guerra, como também treinar jovens novamente para atirar em seus irmãos e irmãs em outros países.

Em alguns países, o serviço militar obrigatório já foi reintroduzido. Na Alemanha, uma nova lei sobre o serviço militar obrigatório será aprovada este ano. Ela começa com a coleta de dados em larga escala, abre caminho para o envio de recrutas para o exterior e busca determinar o valor de uma vida humana.

Com o recrutamento obrigatório, aqueles no poder tentarão nos atingir a todos. Mas essa é justamente a sua fraqueza: sem nós, a guerra deles não pode ser travada.

É por isso que estamos lutando para unir as forças pacifistas em nosso país – sejam pacifistas ou antimilitaristas. Somente juntos podemos nos opor ao recrutamento obrigatório. Os primeiros passos para a formação de comitês contra o recrutamento obrigatório já foram dados; eles visam unir e coordenar essa luta. Porque individualmente ou separadamente, não teremos chance.

Sob o lema “Não permitiremos que nos registremos e sejamos recrutados! Não ao serviço militar obrigatório!”, a iniciativa “Formem comitês contra o serviço militar obrigatório!”, idealizada e apoiada por nós, organizou manifestações por toda a Alemanha. Estamos enviando a colagem.

Embora saibamos que o movimento contra o recrutamento obrigatório ainda é pequeno demais, fraco demais e fragmentado demais para impedir a lei, essas manifestações representam uma importante tentativa de fortalecer e unir nossas forças. Afinal, a luta contra o recrutamento obrigatório e a mobilização geral para a guerra não terminará com a aprovação da lei.

Como organização juvenil socialista, sabemos que a luta contra a introdução do recrutamento obrigatório é um pré-requisito para a luta dentro do exército. É por isso que a travamos. E se um dia formos recrutados em massa para a guerra deles – o que levará tempo, pois as estruturas para isso ainda são insuficientes –, trabalharemos para minar esse recrutamento.

Pois o que realmente põe fim às guerras para os povos são as revoluções.

Por tudo isso, hoje mais do que nunca, precisamos de uma federação mundial poderosa da juventude democrática – fundada como uma lição da catástrofe para a qual estamos caminhando novamente. Sabemos que os Festivais Mundiais são urgentemente necessários para isso. No entanto, eles só serão eficazes se a programação for definida pela Federação Mundial da Juventude Democrática (FMJD) e não por qualquer governo – e se todas as organizações membros puderem participar plenamente de sua elaboração. Vamos lutar juntos por isso dentro da FMJD!

Enfrentamos grandes tarefas e desafios: vamos derrubar este sistema – e assim acabar com suas guerras! Desejamos sucesso em seu congresso. Que ele nos ajude a dar mais um passo rumo a esse objetivo! Estamos ansiosos para receber notícias suas e saber dos resultados do congresso!
